Back to Basics

Thanks to OT, the fund notched up a victory with Monday night’s Louisville cover over Notre Dame. Yes it was lucky, but it left me something to think about. I talk enough about how I watch more basketball than anyone else. This early season is where I seem to find a betting advantage because of it; yet I’ve found myself analyzing efficiency ratings instead of tapping into my general knowledge of the sport.

Tonight things change with two spreads that don’t seem right. I like Purdue -4 @ Northwestern. Purdue is fully healthy with Hummel and Kramer back and they know how to defend. Northwestern’s offense shouldn’t give them as much trouble as lazier teams. I also like Xavier -1.5 @ Rhode Island. My money is on the more athletic Xavier guards being able to shut down Jimmy Baron, the coach’s son. I just can’t get fired up about URI’s best win being @ Penn State. Xavier had the small lapse with Duke and Butler, but they’ve beaten Memphis and a useful Virginia Tech team.

Record: 3-3
Bank: $198.65
